Our Radiator Heating Services

From new installations in a renovation to a leaking valve on a century-old cast iron radiator, we handle the plumbing side of hot water heating for Toronto homeowners.

Radiator Installation

Advanced Plumbing & Drains installs hot water radiators for renovations, additions, basement finishes and full heating replacements. We size and position each unit for the room it serves, run the supply and return lines, and commission the system so heat is balanced instead of concentrated in one part of the house.

We work with cast iron, panel and baseboard radiators, and we install thermostatic radiator valves where you want room-by-room control. Every installation is pressure tested and left clean.

  • New radiator installation for renovations, additions and basement finishes
  • Cast iron, panel and baseboard radiator replacement
  • Supply and return line runs, including tight retrofits in older homes
  • Thermostatic radiator valve installation for room-by-room control
  • Pressure testing and system balancing before we leave

Signs Your Radiator System Needs a Plumber

Radiator and boiler problems rarely fix themselves, and small leaks get expensive once they reach a floor or a ceiling. Call us if you notice any of the following.

One radiator stays cold

Usually trapped air, a seized valve or sediment in the unit. It is a quick fix early and a bigger job once the system is unbalanced.

Water around the base

A leaking valve, union or pipe connection. Left alone it stains floors, damages subfloor and drops system pressure.

Banging or gurgling pipes

Air in the loop or circulation problems. Both put stress on joints and get worse through the heating season.

Boiler pressure keeps dropping

Points to a leak somewhere in the loop, a failing feed valve or an expansion tank that is no longer holding a charge.

Relief valve is dripping

The system is either over-pressurized or the valve has failed. This is a safety component and needs to be diagnosed, not ignored.

Rust or corrosion on fittings

A slow leak has been active long enough to leave a trail. We trace it to the source before it opens up mid-winter.

Boiler-side plumbing

The Plumbing Side of Your Boiler

A hot water radiator system is only as reliable as the plumbing that feeds it. Most of the calls we get trace back to the components clustered around the boiler rather than the radiators themselves.

  • Feed valve

Tops up the loop and holds correct pressure. When it malfunctions you get pressure swings, cold radiators or an over-filled system.

  • Pressure relief valve

A safety device that discharges when pressure climbs too high. A dripping or leaking relief valve is a signal, not a nuisance.

  • Expansion tank

Absorbs expansion as water heats. A waterlogged or failed tank causes pressure spikes and relief valve discharge.

  • Piping and connections

Supply and return lines, unions and valves. Older Toronto systems leak at the joints first, usually behind or under something.

Note: we handle the plumbing side of boiler systems. For gas or combustion work, a licensed gas technician is required and we will tell you straight when that is the case.

Radiator Questions, Answered

The questions Toronto homeowners ask us most about radiator heating.

Most often trapped air, a seized or partially closed valve, or sediment sitting in the bottom of the unit. We bleed the radiator, test the valve and check circulation to find which one it is, then fix it on the spot in most cases.

Put a container under the drip, shut the radiator valve if it turns freely, and call (416) 769-8800. Do not force a seized valve — that often turns a slow drip into an open leak.

We repair them wherever the unit is sound. Most cast iron radiators in Toronto homes outlive the valves and connections attached to them, so the repair is usually at the fittings rather than the radiator body.

We handle the plumbing side of boiler systems — feed valves, relief valves, expansion tanks, circulator connections and the piping around the boiler. Gas and combustion work requires a licensed gas technician, and we will tell you clearly when that is what you need.

A leak somewhere in the loop, a failing feed valve, or an expansion tank that has lost its charge. We pressure test the system to find the actual cause instead of just topping it up and sending you a bill.

Once a year, before the heating season. An annual check covers bleeding the radiators, inspecting valves and connections, and verifying system pressure and the expansion tank — the three things that cause most mid-winter failures.

Yes, when the existing system has the capacity and the supply lines can be reached. We assess the loop first and tell you straight whether adding a unit will work or whether it will starve heat from the rest of the house.

Yes. Same-day appointments are available for most radiator calls, and the emergency line is open 24/7 for active leaks and no-heat situations. Call (416) 769-8800.
