City of Toronto Rebate

Claim Up to $2,550 Back on Your Sump Pump Installation

Toronto homeowners can recover up to $2,550 of the cost of a new sump pump system through the City of Toronto Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program, part of a program that now pays up to $6,650 per property. We install to the program standard, itemize your invoice the way the City requires, and hand you the documentation and photos you need to submit your claim.

Sump Pump & Alarm

$2,250

Up to 80% of your invoiced cost, to a maximum of $2,250 for one device, covering installation or replacement of a sump pump and installation of a sump pump alarm.

Battery Backup

$300

An additional subsidy of up to 80% of the invoiced cost, to a maximum of $300, when you add a battery backup to your sump pump.

Total Available

$2,550

The combined maximum a Toronto property can claim for a sump pump, alarm and battery backup under the expanded program.

What the Subsidy Covers

  • Installation or replacement of a sump pump
  • Installation of a sump pump alarm
  • Installation of a battery backup for your sump pump
  • Eligible labour, materials and taxes on the above

Important: if you install a sump pump with a built-in or separate battery backup, the City requires your contractor to itemize the cost of each component separately on the invoice. We do this on every sump pump invoice, so the battery backup portion of your claim is not rejected on a technicality.

How We Help You Claim It

  1. 1We assess your basement and recommend a sump pump, alarm and battery backup configuration that qualifies under the program.
  2. 2We complete the installation as a licensed City of Toronto contractor, which is a condition of every claim.
  3. 3We issue an itemized electronic invoice that separates the pump, alarm and battery backup so each subsidy line can be calculated.
  4. 4We take the required photos of the sump pump and exterior discharge pipe, and walk you through submitting the online application.

You submit original electronic invoices from every contractor and sub-contractor involved.

Full Subsidy Guide

Subsidy amounts and conditions are set by the City of Toronto and can change. The amounts shown apply to eligible work completed on or after November 12, 2025, and applications for those amounts are accepted as of May 1, 2026. Subsidies are issued on a first-come, first-served basis subject to annual funding approved by City Council, so submitting an application does not guarantee payment. Advanced Plumbing & Drains prepares your documentation but does not administer the program. Confirm current amounts and conditions on the official City of Toronto program page.

Sump pumps are essential in Toronto's climate where spring snowmelt and heavy rains cause basement flooding. If your basement is wet, you notice water pooling, or your existing sump pump is failing, professional installation or repair is critical.

For new installation, we assess your basement's water situation, recommend the right pump size and type, and install the system with proper drainage. For repairs, we diagnose the problem, repair or replace the pump, and test the system. We ensure backup power options are in place for emergencies. On every subsidy-eligible installation, we document the work and itemize the invoice so your rebate application holds up.

Sump pump installation typically takes 2–4 hours. Repairs may take 1–2 hours depending on the problem.

Sump pump installation ranges from $800–$1,500 depending on the pump type and system complexity. Repairs range from $200–$600. We provide upfront pricing. For eligible Toronto homeowners, the City subsidy covers up to 80 per cent of the invoiced cost of a qualifying sump pump, alarm and battery backup, which brings the net cost of a new system down substantially.

Our team is fully licensed and insured, and we hold a valid City of Toronto business licence — a mandatory condition of every Basement Flooding Protection subsidy claim. All installations meet Toronto building codes. We guarantee our work on parts and labor.

Toronto's heavy spring rains and snowmelt make sump pumps essential. We're experienced with the local water challenges and recommend systems designed for our climate. The City expanded its flood protection subsidies effective May 1, 2026, which makes this the most affordable window Toronto homeowners have had to install a properly backed-up sump pump system.

Do I need a sump pump? If your basement has ever been wet or you're in a flood-prone area, a sump pump is highly recommended.

What type of sump pump is best? Submersible pumps are most common and reliable. We'll recommend based on your basement's water situation.

How often should I maintain my sump pump? Annual inspection and testing before spring is recommended to ensure reliability.

Frequently Asked Questions

The City of Toronto Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program covers up to 80 per cent of your invoiced cost to a maximum of $2,250 for the installation or replacement of a sump pump and the installation of a sump pump alarm. Adding a battery backup qualifies for a further 80 per cent of the invoiced cost up to $300, for a total of up to $2,550 per property.

Yes. We install as a licensed City of Toronto contractor, itemize the sump pump, alarm and battery backup separately on your invoice exactly as the City requires, take the photos of the sump pump and exterior discharge pipe that must accompany your application, and walk you through submitting it online. The City issues the payment directly to you.

The City calculates the sump pump subsidy and the battery backup subsidy as two separate line items with two separate caps. If a contractor bills the system as one lump sum, the City cannot isolate the backup cost and that portion of your claim gets denied. We itemize every component on every sump pump invoice for this reason.

You must be the registered owner of a single-family, duplex, triplex or fourplex home in Toronto, have your downspouts disconnected from the City sewer system or hold an exemption, use a contractor with a valid City of Toronto business licence, have no outstanding taxes or debts owed to the City, and apply within two years of the installation date.

A backup power system keeps your pump running during an outage, which is exactly when Toronto basements flood. The City subsidizes battery backups up to $300 for this reason, and we recommend one on every installation.

Quality sump pumps last 5–10 years with proper maintenance. If yours is older than that, replacement is the safer call — and a replacement qualifies for the same City subsidy as a new installation.

Submersible pumps sit in the sump pit and run quieter. Pedestal pumps sit above the pit and are easier to service. We recommend based on your pit size, water volume and basement layout.

Yes. We offer annual sump pump inspection and testing, ideally before the spring melt, to confirm the pump, float switch, alarm and discharge line are all working.
